Steve Johnson, Director of Ministry Campaign Services

Steve's expertise includes capital campaigns, vision building and strategic planning. He has a personal vision for creating an environment in which ministries can excel. Steve uses his gifts and talents to help churches create such an environment by focusing on 1) vision building and strategic planning and 2) fund raising to provide needed financial resources for ministries.
Joining Ministry Campaign Services in 1997 and serving as its first director, Steve has nearly 28 years of fund raising experience and brings to his position an understanding of the funding process, long involvement in leadership positions in the local church, and an understanding of what God is doing in and through the evangelical church today. Steve is a member of Five Oaks Evangelical Free Church, in Woodbury, MN where he attends with his wife Deb.
Dave Viland, Senior Campaign Consultant
David has been involved in fund raising for over 20 years, in campaigns from $25,000 - $4.5 million, both in not-for-profit organizations and churches. One of David's passions is to see the local church vibrant in its mission as a result of healthy, biblically based leadership and governance. David first worked with MCS in 2001 and joined the staff in 2006. He has served as Church Administrator/Executive Pastor of Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fargo, ND. While there he led the church through a large capital campaign, a major building & ministry expansion program, and an operational reorganization. The campaign was officially a $3 million dollar campaign that grew to $4.5 million in the second phase.
As Senior Consultant for Ministry Campaign Services, David facilitates strategic planning sessions, provides church governance training, and conducts/teaches the DiSC and Uniquely You spiritual gifts and personality profile instruments. He has a varied background of health care management, church administration and leadership in churches from 50-2,500. Previously, David served as a Long-Term Care Administrator, working primarily with church affiliated senior care/living environments at both the campus and corporate levels. David, along with his wife Donna, is a member of Bethel Church, Fargo, ND. They have two married daughters and 5 grandchildren.
Dean Engebretson, Campaign Consultant

Dean’s passion for the local church has prepared him well to serve as a consultant with the MCS team. In addition to leading capital campaigns, Dean works with church leadership regarding vision casting, leadership development, funding God's vision through stewardship campaigns, and church governance. As an ordained pastor, Dean has served the EFCA movement for over 30 years. His ministry includes a church plant building project in northern California; an associate pastorate and stewardship campaign in San Jose, CA; 16 years as senior pastor in suburban Minneapolis completing two building expansions and three stewardship campaigns.
He has a Master of Divinity degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
Dean and his wife Trudy live in Pinehurst, NC, where he is serving as Senior Pastor of Christ Community Church (EFCA). He also continues to serve as a consultant with MCS.
Robert Gentzel, Campaign Consultant
Bob Gentzel brings a wealth of experience in local church ministry to the MCS team. He has many years of local church stewardship, and fund-raising experience that equip him well for work with churches. Before joining MCS, Bob was in pastoral ministry--eight years as a senior pastor and eight years as a church planter. He and his family pioneered new churches in Alaska and Washington. In 1998, Bob joined MCS serving as a full-time senior consultant. In 2007, Bob and his wife Jamie moved to Vashon, WA, where he became the senior pastor of Bethel EFC. He also continues to serve as a consultant with MCS. Bob's undergraduate degree is in Bible and Christian education. He has Master's degrees in Pastoral Ministries and Philanthropy & Development.
